Mount Rushmore National Memorial

Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a sculptured tribute that was carved into the face of Mount Rushmore near Keystone, South Dakota.  

It was my wife's dream to someday visit Mount Rushmore. So for our 40th wedding anniversary I booked a vacation trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota. She got to see Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse memorial. We took a bus tour with Stagecoach West Charter Tours from Fort Hayes near Rapid City South Dakota. They have the film sets from the movie "Dances with Wolves" . They offer a great tour and we highly recommend them. Riding through Cluster State Park and going through the three tunnels with views of Mount Rushmore  was very interesting and the driver was very knowledgeable and entertaining.  They have many turn-of-the-century workshops to visit. The tour was awesome and the cowboy breakfast and the dinner show afterwards was very entertaining. being the first couple to book the tour has many benefits doing the day.

Mount Rushmore - a dream come true

Mount Rushmore was sculpted by Danish-American Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln Borglum.  Mount Rushmore features 60-foot sculptures of the heads of former United States presidents ( from left to right) George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln to represent the first 150 years of American History.

Construction on Mount Rushmore began in 1927 and finished in 1941. This was done in the Black Hills of South Dakota to promote tourism for the region. Many people visit these memorials every year. They don't know how long it is going to take to finish the memorial to Crazy Horse.

From South Dakota we drove out to Wyoming and saw the Devil's Tower as seen in the movie "Close Encounters" and then we went to see the Badlands.

Lunenburg MA Flea Market

It's great to see the Lunenburg MA flea market open again.

For those of you who have never been to a flea market, it is a place where people rent space to sell or barter items of interest. In the winter flea markets are generally held indoors and in the summer you can find several outdoor flea markets to visit.


The Lunenburg MA flea market is open on Satuday and Sunday morning during the summer. It's located at 324 Electric Ave (RT 2A) across from the Chapdelaine Buick GMC car dealer. I like to see it open because it means that another winter is over  and I can enjoy the summer. I enjoy going to various flea markets as well as yard sales. They have free parking and free admission and they are usually open from April  till October.

The town of Shirley has 2 town wide yard sales one near the beginning of summer and another one at the end of the summer. But that requires driving around to try and find things. When you go to a flear market everything is in one place so you don't have to waste time driving around looking for bargains.

The town of Harvard has a big flea market around Columbus day every year which is another flea market that is interesting to visit. It is more antique oriented and the items are usually more expensive there.

Going to the Lunenburg MA flea market is an interesting way to spend the morning.  They have a green house nearby and a food stand if you get hungry or thirsty. They have several rows of tables  that the vendors use. They is usually a wide variety of things to look at and things to buy.

The number of visitors is growing so they have been expanding the free parking area. It doesn't cost anything if you just want to go and look around. Many of the same vendors are there during the summer weekends.

The Lunenburg MA flea market displays produce, tools, electronics, clothes, books, CDs and DVDs and many other items. You can rent tables and sell items, or just shop to try and find items that you are interested in. The people are friendly and the prices are reasonable.
